Why teachers joined walk out Wednesday

Teachers in Norwich marched from the train station to City Hall after being offered a below-inflation 5pc pay increase.

More than 170 schools across Norfolk have closed or partially closed as teachers take part in national strike action.

Wednesday was the first of seven national and regional NEU strike dates.

In Norwich teachers marched from the train station to City Hall to make there voices heard.

Teachers are set to receive a below-inflation 5pc pay increase from September 2023, taking the average starting salary to £30,000.

However, this is not government-funded, meaning academy trusts have been left to find the money in their existing budgets.
