BREAKING: Major incident declared in Suffolk

Suffolk’s chief fire officer, Jon Lacey, has urged residents to only travel if essential, as severe flooding has led to dangerous conditions.

A major incident is called when there is heightened risk of serious harm, damage, disruption or threat to human life or welfare, the Suffolk Resilience Forum said.

If you must travel, the Resilience Forum recommends:

  • Keep alert for surface water
  • Drive according to the conditions
  • Keep headlights on and increase the distance from the vehicle in front
  • Prepare to back off further if visibility gets worse
