Rishi Sunak says for the first time ever crossings are down by 20 per cent and feels confident that the plan is working because ‘in Europe numbers are up by a third’ whilst in the UK numbers have decreased.
He said: “It’s really important to reduce the people in hotels”.
£6 million is being spent to house illegal asylum seekers everyday, with large sites such as army bases, and vessels used to relocate people out of hotels.
So far, the government has secured three boats to house thousands of illegal asylum seekers.
