Russian President Vladimir Putin has launched into a military operation in Ukraine.

But what does this mean?

In 2014 the then Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, rejected an association agreement with the European Union in favor of closer ties with Russia.

This led to a lot of conflict in the region. In 2015 a peace agreement was brokered with the help of France and Germany.

However, in 2021 Ukraine and Russia have felt that there has been a spike in violations of the agreement. Which has been a contribution to this invasion.

People have been trying to flee Ukraine to get away from the unrest, which is causing pile ups on roads and long queues at cash machines, petrol stations and supermarkets.

According to Sky News an advisor to the Ukraine President believes that about 40 people have been killed so far following Russian invasion of the country.

The response around the world?

World country leaders have condemned the military assault.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the attacks are ‘catastrophe for our continent.’

He is “appalled by the horrific events” and feels that President Putin has “chosen a path of bloodshed and destruction by launching this unprovoked attack”.

Boris Johnson is due to make a national address later today.

President Joe Biden described the invasion as “an unprovoked and unjustified attack.”

However, the Russian President has warned that if other countries take on Russia, the capital, Moscow will respond instantly.
